June 2016 Football Calendar
Modern football can be vicious. Common injuries include strains, sprains, tears, contusions, separations, dislocations, and concussions. But we’ve come a long way since the killing fields-era of early American football. Football in the early 1900s was lethally brutal. In 1904 alone, the Chicago Tribune reported 18 deaths and 159 severe injuries on the football field – mostly among prep school players.
Football Weblog’s June 2016 Football Calendar features James Francis Wathohunk Thorpe, a player that not only survived but starred in the early 20th century. Jim Thorpe was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1963, and is celebrated as “The World’s Greatest Athlete”.
Football Weblog’s monthly calendar comes in two different formats. The first is formatted to print on two standard 8½ x 11 sheets of paper. The second is formatted to fit an 11 x 17 sheet. Choose your desired format from the links below.
Free NFL Stuff for Kids
The NFL recently launched the NFL Newborn Fan Club. Don’t let the name fool you however. It’s not just for newborns. Kids born since January 1, 2012, are currently eligible to join. You can even enroll your child if you are expecting! The cost? Totally free! If you’re a parent/grandparent, or parent/grandparent-to-be, be sure to enroll your child soon. It’s a great way to pass on your football traditions to the next generation.
One Page 2016 NFL Schedule
On April 14th, the NFL released its official game schedule – all 19 pages worth. The NFL does a great job presenting information if you’re searching for games being “tri-cast” on CBS/NBC, NFL Network, and Twitter, but I’ll take my 256-game regular season NFL schedule on one 8½” x 11” sheet of paper, thank you. Life is filled with enough clutter the way it is.
Without further ado, I present to you the 2016 One-Page NFL Schedule, in PDF format, ready to be downloaded and printed on a single sheet of paper. As in previous seasons, I’ve created a version for each U.S. time zone. Isn’t nanotechnology great? Enjoy!
May 2016 Football Calendar
When I was young, back when rocks were still soft, my best friend, Jack, received the most awesomest present a 10-year-old boy could receive. It was a Tudor electric football game featuring the Minnesota Vikings and Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl IV. As electric football games go, there was probably never a more realistic model produced. As a Vikings fan, despite the Purple’s loss in Super Bowl IV, it was a piece of art. I appreciated the game even at that young age and drool over it to this day. Jack is no longer the football fan that I am, but knows something special when he sees it. He still has the game some 45 odd years later. I feature a picture of the game in this month’s football calendar.

The second format is for those of you that own a printer that supports 11 x 17 paper. The entire month — picture and calendar — fits neatly on one tabloid-sized paper. April 2016 Football Calendar
The birds are singing, the cold winter weather is behind us, and the warm sun and rain showers are greening up the lawns and making the trees bud. As Kip Dynamite would say, “that’s pretty cool I guess”. But if you’re a football fan, it’s still the dark days, because football season is about as far away as it can get. Yet there are still things to get excited about. April means the NFL Player Draft. It’s always fun to see where the top prospects end up, and speculate what those new player additions will mean to the clubs that select them.
Football Weblog’s monthly football calendar can help too. Not only does it show the dates of the 2016 NFL Player Draft (April 28-30), but it also includes the birth dates of the best NFL players, both past and present. Displaying Football Weblog’s colorful calendar is a great way to show that you’re a football fan.

Official 2015 NFL Statistics Book
Last Thursday, the NFL released its incredible 67-page Official 2015 NFL Statistics book. I love it! It’s a huge compilation of stats ranging from rushing, passing, and receiving, to interceptions, punt returns, and field goals. Whatever NFL stat you’re looking for from 2015, chances are you’ll find it here. Best of all, it’s offered by the league for free! Click HERE to open or download your copy now. Football Weblog Moonshot: March 2016 Update
In December of 2014, Football Weblog eclipsed 15,000 all-time views. I acknowledged that landmark number with a fun, little John F. Kennedy-like post proclaiming that Football Weblog is shooting for the moon. The post included an image showing a rocket speeding away from the earth at an elevation of 15,000 yards – one yard for every view. (Hey, progress on the gridiron is tracked in yards. If you’re running a football blog, the unit of measure has to be yards!) This is an update on that post. As you can see by the infographic below, traffic to Football Weblog continues to grow at an increasing rate. Godspeed, Football Weblog, and thank you to everyone for your support!

Football Weblog: Three Seasons of Epic Fun
Three years ago on this date – March 15, 2013 – I published my first Football Weblog post. To mark the anniversary, I’ve created a short video. For those of you that frequent Football Weblog, the video is a celebration. I trust the images will put a smile on your face as you remember the diverse, interesting, and enjoyable football-related topics that have been covered. If you’re a newcomer, I hope the video gives you an entertaining idea of the content Football Weblog provides and inspires you to come back for more. My biggest wish is that you like the video as much as I enjoyed creating it.
NFL Regional Combines
The NFL has a system in place for teams to take a closer look at young athletes hoping to find their way into the league. The first and biggest event is the Scouting Combine. More than 300 prospects were invited to participate in this year’s Scouting Combine. The NFL also hosts Regional Combines. Regional Combines are held in various cities throughout the U.S. for players not invited to the main Scouting Combine.
Not just anyone can attend a Regional Combine. Prospects are required to apply. Only those that meet NFL eligibility rules, and establish that they are fit and qualified to compete, are invited to showcase their talents.
Recently I was browsing YouTube and stumbled across a 2013 NFL Regional Combines promo video. I don’t know about you, but the video gives me chills. It does a great job of putting you into a young athlete’s shoes. If your dream is to play in the NFL, the Regional Combines may be your last good opportunity to convince someone to give you a chance.
Sea Gal Hope Captures 2016 Cheerleader Tournament Crown
Sea Gal Hope defeated the Broncos’ Christina by the narrowest of margins, 8-7, to capture the 2016 Clash of the Pro Bowl Cheerleaders championship. This year’s entire tournament was marked by close matches, so it was only fitting that Hope garnered the victory by a single vote. (Click HERE to see the tournament bracket.)
March 2016 Football Calendar
The 2015-16 gridiron season continues to wind down. This is the slowest time of the year when it comes to football. Yet a glimmer of hope can already be seen. The NFL Regional Combines are in full swing, and the 2016 NFL Player Draft is around the corner in April. Yes, these are the dark days of football, but there’s still a pigskin pulse. Hang in there.
One way to keep football on your mind is to display Football Weblog’s monthly calendar. This month we celebrate field general Peyton Manning’s 4oth birthday (March 24th) and honor his Super Bowl 50 win over the Panthers. The March calendar displays a colorful “snapshot in time” from 2014 that shows Manning tossing his 509th career touchdown pass — the pass that eclipsed Brett Favre for most TD passes ever.

2016 Clash of the Pro Bowl Cheerleaders Championship
It was a long, arduous journey, but we finally made it to the ‘Super Bowl’ of Football Weblog’s cheerleader tournament: The 2016 Clash of the Pro Bowl Cheerleaders Championship!
Representing the AFL is the Bronco’s Christina. She advanced to the championship round with a 9-6 tally over the Jag’s Jessica. The NFC representative is Hope from the Seahawks. She slipped past the Buccaneer’s Cori by the slimmest of margins: 8-7. (Click HERE to see the tournament bracket.)
The pictures for the championship match are shown below. Select your favorite. The cheerleader that captures the most votes will be named the winner of Football Weblog’s 2016 Clash of the Pro Bowl Cheerleaders tournament. Polls will remain open through Sunday, February 28.
Good luck, Christina and Hope!
There’s an I in Team After All
Seems there’s an ‘I’ in ‘TEAM’ after all. It’s right there in the A-hole.
