* Super Bowl XXXIX
As I write this, the odds makers favor the Patriots by 4½ with an over/under of 48 points. That’s a lot of points to be scored. The 2017-18 NFL season is nearing its end. How much of the season left? Let’s put it into perspective.
The 2017-18 NFL season opener kicked off on Thursday, September 7 with the Chiefs defeating the Patriots 42 to 27. If this game was played in the year 1 A.D., and the entire NFL season took place from then until the current year of 2018, then each day that passed was the equivalent of just under 13-½ years. Using this viewpoint, here’s a timeline of the season:
As I write this, there are 17 days, 21 hours, 48 minutes, and 2 seconds until Super Bowl LII kicks off in U.S. Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, Minnesota. First, however, the Conference Championships need to take place to determine the combatants. Select the link below for the free 2017-18 Fantasy Football Cheatsheet for said Conference Championships. This is going to be a sweet ride!
Whether you call it the ‘Skol Mary‘, ‘Hail Millie‘, ‘Whiff Six‘, or ‘Minneapolis Miracle‘, last Sunday’s Vikings 29-24 win over the Saints was epic. Brit milah (commonly known as circumcision) is held on a baby boy’s eighth day of life. Eight is the atomic number of oxygen. And eight teams remain in the NFL playoffs. Coincidence? I think not! For those of you that have been playing along at home, you know that I’ve been updating the One Page NFL Schedules each week with the most recent game scores. Well, let’s keep moving the chains! Although I have to tuck tail and admit that Football Weblog’s cheatsheet algorithm — used to fine-tune the accuracy of our cheatsheets — is not likely to supplant professional handicapping any time soon, I walk away content knowing that the process put up a good dog fight.
During the course of the regular season, Football Weblog’s picks matched or exceeded Sin City’s handicapping totals in 10 of 16 weeks. In fact, we enjoyed a 3 game advantage at mid-season. Alas, Football Weblog’s theorem fell especially apart in week 17 because the calculations do not take into account that some NFL teams rest their starters in preparation for a playoff run. I noted this reservation last week, but chose to plod forward anyway.
Another year has come and gone, and with it the 2017 NFL regular season. We witnessed the Jaguars change their culture and become relevant again, we saw the Bills pull out a home win against the Colts in a magnificent snow storm, and we beheld the Cleveland Browns methodically march into the darkness of an 0-16 season. The scores for these games, and all the rest of the games of the 2017 NFL regular season, have been faithfully captured, and digitally remastered, in Football Weblog’s One Page NFL Schedule. It happens a lot in week 17: An NFL team will rest their starters, or use them sparingly, to keep them healthy for their playoff run. Because of this, most fantasy leagues understandably play their championship game in week 16. But if you’re in a fantasy league that insists on playing in week 17, we’ve got you covered.
