The “Sea Eagles” Memory Hack Every NFL Fan Should Know
Ever notice how the Super Bowl feels huge and unforgettable while you’re watching it… but a few months later you find yourself thinking:
“Wait… who won the Super Bowl last year again?”
It happens to everybody. The game feels historic in the moment, but once the offseason rolls along, the details start slipping.
Here’s a simple trick that fixes that problem for good.
What you’re about to learn is a combination of two classic memory techniques: an acrostic mnemonic and an image mnemonic. Used together, they make remembering things ridiculously easy.
First: The Acrostic Mnemonic
An acrostic mnemonic is a sentence where the first letters of each word represents something you want to remember, in the correct order.
Here’s the phrase:
“Sea Eagles Cheer Chiefs, Rams Buck Chiefs.”
Each word corresponds to a Super Bowl champion from 2020 through today:
Sea → Seahawks (2026)
Eagles → Eagles (2025)
Cheer → Chiefs (2024)
Chiefs → Chiefs (2023)
Rams → Rams (2022)
Buck → Buccaneers (2021)
Chiefs → Chiefs (2020)
Now, I’ve actually done the plain acrostic mnemonic one better. The first two letters of each word clearly point to the team name, which helps avoid confusion with other NFL teams that start with the same letter. For example, “Ch” points to the Chiefs, and “Bu” points straight to the Buccaneers.
Just remembering that sentence gives you the entire list.
Second: The Image Mnemonic
Now we make it stick.
An image mnemonic works by creating a vivid, goofy mental picture tied to the information you want to remember. The brain is far better at remembering strange images than plain facts.
So picture this:
- On one side, a giant sea eagle cheering for a chief.
- On the other side, a ram lowering its horns and butting another chief.
It’s silly. It’s exaggerated. And that’s exactly why it works.
Why Using Both Makes It Even Better
Each method helps on its own, but combining them makes the memory almost fail-safe.
The acrostic mnemonic gives you the exact order of the teams, while the image mnemonic gives your brain a visual scene it won’t forget.
So when you think about the phrase:
“Sea Eagles Cheer Chiefs, Rams Buck Chiefs.”
…your brain instantly recalls the goofy image of a sea eagle cheering a chief, and a ram butting another chief.
And just like that, the list of champions falls right into place.
The Super Bowl Champions This Hack Helps You Remember
Using this simple trick, you can instantly recall the champions of the 2020s so far. Not bad for one goofy sentence and one ridiculous mental picture.
Just take a few minutes to commit it all to memory over the next couple of days and in no time, whenever anyone asks:
“Who won the Super Bowl a couple years ago?”
…you won’t be guessing. You’ll know.
As always, run to daylight.
