Simulating Super Bowl LX: Seahawks vs. Patriots
I stumbled across a pretty cool website the other day: WhatIfSports.com. It’s fun to mess around with and built entirely around settling the debates sports fans love, including teams from different eras, legends who never crossed paths, and dream matchups that could only happen in a simulator. Best of all, it’s completely free to use, so you can run simulations, test hypothetical matchups, and settle sports debates without spending a dime. If this sounds like a cool site to you, I recommend checking it out.
With Super Bowl LX right around the corner, it felt like the perfect opportunity to simulate this season’s championship matchup and see how the numbers suggest it might play out. One thing to keep in mind is that every simulation will produce slightly different results. If two teams are truly evenly matched, you would expect each to win about half the time. But sometimes teams that look even on paper do not actually match up well, and the simulator should expose that.
To be totally fair, I probably should have run the Super Bowl LX simulation multiple times to get a clearer picture of which team really holds the edge. For simplicity’s sake, though, I ran it just once. I did try to make it as realistic as possible. The simulation let me set the game at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, the actual site of Super Bowl LX, and even allowed me to plug in weather conditions. I checked the long-range forecast and matched things as closely as I could to what is expected on game day.
So, without further ado, here’s how the simulation played out:
- First quarter: Seattle struck first with a Jason Myers field goal, but New England answered with a touchdown pass from Drake Maye to Stefon Diggs.
- Second quarter: Myers added two long field goals, while Rashid Shaheed hauled in a short touchdown pass from Sam Darnold to give the Seahawks a comfortable lead.
- Third quarter: The Patriots managed a field goal, but a short Zach Charbonnet touchdown run put the game away for Seattle.
- Fourth quarter: Neither team scored, and Seattle ran out the clock to secure the win.
Final score: Seattle Seahawks 23, New England Patriots 10.
If you want to dig deeper into the simulation, check out the blue buttons below. You will find full team stats, individual player stats, and even play-by-play breakdowns for each quarter. It’s a fun way to see exactly how the Seahawks pulled off their 23–10 win.
As always, run to daylight.
